WHAT'S NEW IN 2009–2010?
Foundational-Level General Science Credential
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorized the addition of Foundational-Level General Science as a Single Subject Teaching Credential effective February 2, 2009. The Foundational-Level General Science credential authorizes the holder to teach general, introductory, and integrated science (integrated science through Grade 8 only). To verify subject matter competence for this credential by examination, candidates must pass CSET: Science Subtests I and II (test codes 118 and 119).
For more information, please see the CTC's Coded Correspondence 09-02, available as a PDF document from the CTC's Web site at www.ctc.ca.gov/notices/coded/2009/0902.pdf.
Bilingual Authorization and English Learner Authorization (formerly BCLAD™ and CLAD™ Certificates)
Passage of Assembly Bill (AB) 1871 (Chap. 660, Stats. 2008) has several implications for candidates seeking bilingual authorization. One is that individuals will earn an "authorization" as opposed to a "certificate" for both the Bilingual Authorization (formerly the Bilingual Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development [BCLADä] Certificate) and the English Learner Authorization (formerly the Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development [CLADä] Certificate). The Bilingual or English Learner Authorization will be added directly to an individual's valid prerequisite credential(s).
Refer to "Certification Requirements" for information about examinations for the Bilingual Authorization and the types of instruction authorized by Bilingual and English Learner Authorizations.
For more information, please see the CTC's Coded Correspondence 09-06, available as a PDF document from the CTC's Web site at www.ctc.ca.gov/notices/coded/2009/0906.pdf.
New Examinations for CSET: Languages Other Than English
The CTC has expanded opportunities for candidates to obtain credentials for languages other than English taught in California public schools, including less commonly taught languages. To meet the needs of candidates seeking a credential in less commonly taught languages other than English, the CTC established an alternative subject matter competence assessment process. One component of this process is to take and pass a CSET: Languages Other Than English (LOTE) examination in the target language.
For this reason, beginning with the November 7, 2009, test administration, CSET: Hebrew and Portuguese will be available. Additional CSET: LOTE examinations will become available as approved by the CTC.
Please note that score reports for the November 7, 2009, administration of CSET: Hebrew and Portuguese may be delayed due to standard-setting activities and determination of passing scores by the CTC.
