TEST SELECTION
Examinations of the CSET are administered in morning and afternoon test sessions that are five hours in length. The morning session has a reporting time of 7:15 a.m. and ends at approximately 1:00 p.m. The afternoon session has a reporting time of 1:30 p.m. and ends at approximately 7:15 p.m. (CSET: American Sign Language is scheduled differently than the other examinations; see the American Sign Language test information table that follows for additional information.) Test session reporting times may vary for test sites outside California.
Examinees will be assigned to one or both sessions according to the number and type of subtests for which they registered. Because subtests are offered only in specific sessions, session requests cannot be honored.
Refer to the test information tables that follow for information about test session availability for each subtest. Note that for CSET: Physical Education and Languages Other Than English, some subtests are given in the morning test session and some in the afternoon test session. For all other examinations, any or all subtests within a single examination area may be taken in the same test session. Up to three subtests from different examination areas may be taken together in the afternoon test session only if each of the selected subtests is in English, Mathematics, Science, Science (Specialized), Social Science, or Writing Skills.
In all instances, it is the responsibility of the examinee to register for the correct subtests. If you are not sure which subtest(s) to register for, please see the CTC's Web site at www.ctc.ca.gov.
The test information tables below provide information about test session, test date, and test area availability for each examination of the CSET, including the following:
- CSET: Multiple Subjects
- CSET: Writing Skills
- CSET: Languages Other Than English (used toward a Bilingual Authorization)
- CSET: Preliminary Educational Technology
- CSET: Single Subjects, including CSET: Languages Other Than English (used toward the Single Subject Teaching Credential)
Further information about the following is also provided in the sections below:

When using CSET: Writing Skills to satisfy the basic skills requirement, you must also pass all three subtests of CSET: Multiple Subjects. You may not combine CSET: Writing Skills with the Reading and Mathematics sections of the CBEST to satisfy the basic skills requirement. For more information about who should register for CSET: Writing Skills, see "Certification Requirements" and/or the CTC's Web site at www.ctc.ca.gov.

To allow sufficient time for examinees to prepare photographic material, the registration deadline for this subtest is the regular registration deadline (late and emergency registration are not available for Subtest II). After registering for Subtest II, examinees will receive an instruction packet, including a procedures manual, describing the process and requirements for preparing materials for submission at the site on the day of the test. The instruction packet will be sent by U.S. mail approximately one week following the regular registration deadline. If you registered for Subtest II and have not received your instruction packet by two weeks prior to the test date, contact Evaluation Systems. For additional information about the submission of photographs of artwork for Subtest II, please refer to the CSET: Art test guide on the CSET Web site by selecting "Test Guides."
